"I Have a Story" Secretariat: It was thrilling to watch perfection - Greg McQuade / WTVR (6/9/23)

We are thrilled that this story on Secretariat by Greg McQuade of WTVR in Richmond won an Emmy at the 66th annual Capital Emmys held in Bethesda, Maryland!

50 years ago a Virginian roared into the history books and galloped his way to greatness. In his “I Have a Story” Greg McQuade shows us how Secretariat is being remembered a half-century after capturing the Triple Crown and leaving competitors in the dust.

Secretariat was born at The Meadow in Doswell in 1970. Three years later the massive colt shattered records at The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness and Belmont Stakes that still stand today. He is considered one of the greatest athletes in history. Kate Tweedy - the daughter of Secretariat’s owner Penny Chenery - says witnessing Secretariat toy with his competition was a thing of beauty.
